It has been a while since Honda stopped production of the Civic in India. Honda saw no sense in producing an outdated product which sold in low numbers and hence pulled the plug on the Civic, but this move by Honda disappointed many fans of the Civic, as many people, young and old loved the Civic to bits. If you are one of them, and would love to see the Civic back on the road, there still is some hope for you.
Recently, we acquired a spy shot of a new Honda Civic hatchback which was spotted at the Honda facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan. Now, I must mention that there were quite a few reports on various websites, which suggested that Honda might consider re-launching the Civic in India, but there was no evidence to back these reports, now though, after the Civic hatchback has been spotted in India, there might just be a chance for Honda to do that.
The Civic which was spotted was a left hand-drive version, as the Civic hatchback is sold in North America and our guess is that Honda has imported it from the United States of America. The car has been brought down to Indian shores for R&D purposes, but is the R&D being done to prepare it for launch in India or in another country is unknown as of now.
In international markets, the Civic hatchback is powered by 1.4 liter and 1.8 liter petrol engines with a maximum power output of 99 BHP and 148 BHP respectively. Floating the diesel boat is a 1.6 liter 118 BHP engine. Of the three, the 1.6 liter diesel would be the best selling if launched in India, but the Civic was a petrolhead’s dream and we wouldn’t be surprised if the 1.8 liter petrol too sold well.
If Honda is indeed using the Civic hatchback to consider the Civic sedan being re-launched in India, then we definitely can expect a reveal at the 2016 Auto Expo.
