SPIED: Here are the first pics of the Audi Q1 Compact SUV test mule

We haven’t put a wrong title on; what you see here really is the Audi Q1. The latest entry-level offering from German luxury car manufacturer, Audi has been spied for the first time ever, giving us a slightly better idea as to what the production model will look like.

According to the recent reports, the Q1 is scheduled to make world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March-2016 and will obviously draw inspiration from its larger siblings, the Q3 and the Q5, as well as the current flagship crossover, the Q7. The Q1 is expected to ride on the same Volkswagen MQB modular platform as the A1 and the VW Polo.

The Q1 isn’t far off from simply being an A1 with more ground clearance and a slightly more upright profile, just like what GLA is to A-Class. In India, the Q1 production model is expected to carry over the engines from the A3 sedan paired to manual and automatic transmissions and be offered in both front-wheel and four-wheel-drive avatars.

Speaking to the Autocar Professional, the Head of Audi India, Mr. Joe King, stated that Audi Q1 “could be an interesting product” for India, hinting that India may be one of the several global markets to get this baby-SUV.
