Going by the monthly sales figures, there is absolutely no doubt that the Ecosport is the best selling ford product in India so far as the Ecosport comfortably manages to rake in sales of more than 4000 units every month, and it has been doing so for many months now.
Most people love the way the Ford Ecosport looks, but I am sure there are a few who wish it was a bit different, me included. To me, the Ford Ecosport looks real good, except for the rear part. For me, the tailgate mounted spare wheel spoils the overall design of the Ecosport.
Looks like ford has been listening to consumers like me and they recently revealed a new version of the Ecosport at the Geneva motor show last month. Named the Ford Ecosport S, it is an update to the Ecosport for the European market, which has been changed a little to suit the tastes and preferences of European customers.
On the Ecosport S, Ford has replaced the tailgate mounted spare wheel with the registration number plate enclosure as the Europeans too found the tailgate mounted wheel to be a bit too loud and shouty for their liking. It looks like the changes to the exteriors of the car have been limited to the deletion of the shouty spare wheel mounting.
On the interior front, ford has implemented additional padding for enhanced NVH resistance. They have also added chrome accents at a few places to give the car a more premium feel. The instrument cluster gets chrome surrounds and the power window switches too get chrome tips.
The company has also given the customers of the Ecosport S the option to add extras such as heated windscreen, heated outer rear view mirrors and also heated seats, which will be very useful to those living in the cold and snowy regions of Europe.
Ford has also taken care of the ride and handling in the Ecosport S. The Ecosport was already a good drivers machine, but Ford realized that European roads are much better than Indian roads and hence it would not hurt to reduce the ride height of the Ecosport a little. The Ecosport S rides 10mm lower than the normal Ecosport and the suspension has been revised too which has resulted in better handling. The ESC and power steering too has been optimized more towards European road conditions.
The Ecosport S looks all nice and even has more features, but the catch here is that it might not be launched in the Indian market. As we know, the Ecosport is already doing very well in sales numbers and Ford does not need to improve the aesthetics of the Ecosport right now, but what has put us in a fix is that the Ecosport was spotted testing in India.
We have spy shots of the Ford Ecosport S testing in India, but this might be just a testing program being carried out by Ford India. Ford India might have undertaken the testing of the Ecosport S to make it ready for the European market.
The Ford Ecosport S is expected to be launched in Europe by the month of June 2015 with Ecoboost as well as Tdci engines, but all hope is not lost for Indians who like the Ecosport S. Ford India might be saving the Ecosport S to be launched in India at a later stage, when the sales of the current Ecosport drops.
