The 2014 Toyota Corolla has been spotted many a time while testing on Indian roads from the past few months. Now reports have emerged that, Toyota will officially unveil the car at the 2014 Indian auto expo. However, the Auto Expo unveil will only be a showcase and the car would be launched a little later. Toyota Kirloskar Motors’ deputy managing director had stated that all-new cars would be launched in India only 2015 onwards, so it remains unsure whether the Corolla would be produced in 2014 or 2015.
2014 Toyota Corolla
The pictures of the 2014 Corolla show that the car has been given a very futuristic design, something on the lines of the current Toyota Camry. The other changes on the outside are, sharper body lines, LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, and re-designed alloy wheels which look striking to say the least. Apart from these, the Corolla also gets bigger in dimensions. The car’s wheelbase is now longer by 75mm which means an increase in the leg-room for rear passengers is imminent.
On the inside, the Corolla gets a re-designed dashboard and instrument cluster. It also gets better quality soft-touch plastics and a few more features like hands free Bluetooth calling and push button start.
The engine options remain the same, with Toyota using the 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol which outputs 138bhp-173nm and the 1.4-litre D4-D turbo-diesel which outputs 87bhp-205nm. The transmission options are, 6-speed manual and 7-speed CVTi-S automatic for the petrol and only the 6-speed manual for the diesel. Toyota is said to have tuned the engines and transmissions for better fuel-efficiency. The new electric power steering too will boost fuel efficiency by up to 5%.
Safety features include the usual ABS, EBD, Airbags etc. now what remains to be seen is, the time of launch of the car in India.
