British luxury car brand, Bentley Motors recently the much anticipated 2014 Flying Spur luxury sedan in India at a starting price of Rs 3.10 crore (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It was first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show earlier in March-2013. The luxury car will be imported into India through the completely built unit (CBU) route.
The launch took place at the Exclusive Motors, the official dealer of Bentley in India. At the launch the company informed that even before the launch of the vehicle, they have received bookings till February, so first thing that the company will do is deliver those units immediately. The Exclusive Motors is hoping to sell about 50 units of the car within this financial year.
The 2014 Flying Spur is the Bentley’s most powerful four-door model ever produced, which is more powerful, refined, agile and elegant than the earlier ‘Continental’ version. This refreshed and updated format, will be seen in a range of 12 color options, reduced body weight of 50 kgs, the new Flying Spur will have a total of 600 parts which have been altered that contributes to this weight loss.
Exteriors see the same front fascia as the earlier generation Flying Spur, while the rear end has been modified and gives the car a sleeker and slimmer appearance. Also it’s taller and narrower than the car it replaces. To offset this, the car’s designers have used larger outer headlamps and a front lower intake with no vertical divisions. The headlamps are projector units while the day time running lights and tail lamps get the LED treatment.
On the inside, the design remains unchanged even as Bentley claims that 600 new parts have been used. Except for certain parts such as the sun visors, grab handles, arm rests and dashboard bits, the car’s interiors come with a range of new parts and these include the front and the rear seats. The Flying Spur is available in 4 seat and 5 seat variants. Bentley claims that passenger comfort is improved through better noise insulation, softer suspension and customized tyres.
Features on the interiors include an High Resolution 8″ touch-screen touchscreen system that controls a 1100 watt Naim (made-for-Bentley) audio system consisting of 8 speakers, individual 10 inch LCD touch screens for the rear passengers with a touch screen remote, and an optional Multimedia package that adds WiFi connectivity. Satellite navigation, voice assisted infotainment controls and Bluetooth connectivity is standard. Other customizing options include choice of seat materials and a panoramic roof among many other options.
As far as engine is concerned, the 2014 Flying Spur will sport a 6.0-litre W12 Twin Turbo engine taking the vehicle to a top speed of 322 kmph, making it the fastest 4 door Bentley ever. The engine ables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds while peak power stands at 616 hp at 6000 rpm and 800 Nm peak torque at 2000 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8 speed ZF automatic gearbox that transmits torque to all four wheels of the car.
