The Ford Fiesta sedan has not really been successful in India and the car’s exorbitant price was one of the prime reasons for it. It got price cuts consequently but could never really get back in the game. Ford has now launched the facelifted version of the Fiesta sedan at the Auto Expo 2014 which is expected to challenge the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento and Skoda Rapid. The car has always been the driver’s car and has always attracted the ones who went in for fun of driving above everything else.
“The Ford Fiesta has been lauded by enthusiasts in India for its superior driving dynamics, smart features and democratising technology in the B-segment,” said Vinay Piparsania, executive director of Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India. “With a new, bolder look and more refinement, the Ford Fiesta truly stands out as a premium mid-sized sedan. We are proud to offer a product that will make an even more compelling choice for discerning drivers when it launches later in the year.”
The Fiesta sedan in facelifted guise now gets an Aston Martin-like front grille, an all new bonnet and majorly revamped headlamps. The tail lamps which received a lot of criticism for making the car look small get revamped too and the enhance the overall look of the car now. The car gets two tone interiors now but are largely unchanged. It gets all new seat fabrics and the next-generation version of the Ford Sync connectivity system which now comes shod with AppLink.
Under the hood will be the same 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel motors that power the current Fiesta. The car has been struggling to find takers in the market and has sold merely 564 units in the past 6 months despite every car in the same segment getting sales of about 3,000-3,500 units a month. The prices for the facelift are expected to be announced soon and if Ford manages to price the car right this time around, it will surely attract a slew of driving enthusiasts to the Ford camp.
