The wait is finally over for the Skoda fans who had been eagerly waiting for the release of the Skoda Octavia known as the Laura in India. The company boasts of its class-leading interior space with increased head, knee and legroom for front and rear passengers, making the car increase in length by 90mm compared to its predecessor.
The figures show that it’s even better than the VW Jetta, which is currently one of the biggest cars in its class. With 1782mm of interior length, the Octavia is now 4659mm long and the width is increased by 45mm making the breadth 1814, but one of the best part about the car is its wheelbase, which has grown by 108mm making it 2686mm wide. Skoda engineers have also managed to make the car lighter by around 102Kgs depending on the engine and other such features.
The interior sports a touchscreen multimedia system, which looks stylish with the new steering wheel and the crisp dashboard. Interiors also consists of keyless entry system, and plenty of small, clever touches, such as rubbish bins in the doors and a reversible boot floor, with carpet on one side and rubber on the other.
The petrol engine weighing 20.3kgm will be a 1.4 TSI with 120 bhp. It also consists of a more powerful 1.4 engine with 138Bhp and 25.4kgm of torque. The range-topping petrol model will be 1.8 and weighs 25.4kgm with 177bhp. However, within a few months, a 2.0-liter turbo engine will be introduced in a new Octavia vRS. This 2.0-litre turbo engine is borrowed from the VW Golf GTI hot hatchback.
Now as for the diesel lovers, it starts off with a 103bhp 1.6, and as for the economical users, there will be a 108bhp Greenline version of the 1.6. Things still remain unclear on the two 2.0-liter TDIs with 147bhp and 181bhp. It would be great if Skoda were to bring the diesel version to India along with the petrol version this time around.
