The homegrown-car manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) recently launched a special edition of mighty and muscular Mahindra Scorpio to keep up with the festive season celebrations. Mahindra Scorpio which is now 10 years old is undoubtedly one of the best selling Sports Utility Vehicles in the country, but the entry of several compact SUVs in the market has certainly affected its sales.
Looks wise, the Special Edition Scorpio is similar to the regular variant, save for stickers and better equipment levels to justify the special edition status. On the inside, the Special Edition gets luxurious European leather interiors in tan and beige, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped gear knob and gear shift, an integrated roof-mounted DVD player with a drop-down 9-inch screen and high-gloss wood trim on the dashboard and centre console.
For changes on the exterior, the decade old SUV hides its wrinkles with chrome finished alloy wheels, chequered flag decals on the doors and on the front bumper. There is a ‘Special Edition’ sticker on the tailgate. However, expect the Scorpio to get a minor facelift by June-2014, while the next-generation Scorpio is speculated to hit showrooms by 2017-18.
Dual-front SRS airbags and a high-gloss wood finished central bezel is a regular feature in the pearl finished, chrome trimmed, leather wrapped Mahindra Scorpio special edition. This special edition is limited to only 500 units and will be based on the top-end VLX trim. The company has not revealed the price of the Special Edition Scorpio officially, we expect it to be priced about Rs 20,000 to 30,000 more than the current top-end variant.
