The Nissan Micra Hatchback has been more of a tepid success for Nissan India, with the cute hatchback doing numbers that are nothing really to write home about, especially after a strongish initial performance. Nissan India, having entered the mainstream Indian market wih the Micra Hatchback is looking at breaking into newer territories of the Indian car market in the ear future. Spearheading this initiative, will be the Nissan Sunny sedan also called the Nissan Micra Sedan. The 2011 Nissan Sunny, which Nissan has developed on the Micra platform will first hit the Chinese domestic car market after which Nissan India will bring the sedan down to India. On the looks front, the 2011 Nissan Sunny looks more like a reprise to the ugly Swift Dzire rather than anything remotely appealing.
Slated to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Tata Indigo Manza, the 2011 Nissan Sunny is expected to come with both a petrol and diesel engine. The petrol engine will be the tried and tested HR15, 1500cc, four pot motor from Nissan generating about 80 bhp of power and 135 nm of torque. This petrol motor is expected to be joined by the 1.5 liter renault sourced crdi diesel engine, that will also do duty in the Micra Diesel. The diesel engine could feature a variable geometry turbo with an intercooler to push the power and torque numbers into a higher territory, so as to deal with the higher weight that the sedan desugn brings with it. All said, the 2011 Nissan Sunny is slated for a mid 2011 Indian launch, at a price that should be in the whereabouts of the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Tata Indigo Manza.
