Hindustan Motors has launched the new Pajero Sport SUV in India, at Rs 23.53 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The bookings for the same will open from March 13 onwards. Presently, a single variant of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be made available in India and it will compete with Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Nissan X-Trail.
Under the hood, the new Pajero Sport gets a 2.5-litre diesel engine which generates 178PS of power and 400Nm of maximum torque. This engine is mated to rally proven Super Select 4WD and a five-speed manual gearbox, which will give ’PAJEROSPORT’ (that is how the badge reads)best in class off-road capabilities. It has a high 215mm ground clearance which should give it terrific off-road capability.
The new Pajero Sport SUV features include 17 inch-alloy, projector headlamps with self leveling, chrome door handles, rear parking sensor, driver and passenger-side airbags, ABS & EBD with brake boosters, rear wash wipers and defogger. It is available in 6 attractive shades White, Black, Red, Silver, Grey and Brown.
On the inside, the SUV has leather seat covers, leather wrapped gearknob and steering wheel with audio controls, Music player with USB and multi-info display, 60:40 split central row and 50:50 split third row for extra space. An added bonus is an extra row seats which makes the Pajero a seven-seater.
The Pajero currently on sale in India will be sold for another 4-5 months. Initially, the Pajero Sport will be available as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) with Completely Knocked Down (CKD) production to start from September 2012. The company aims to sell 6000 units of the Pajero Sport this year. (See the video below the jump)
