Volvo XC40 launched in India, priced from Rs. 39.90 lakh

India has welcomed the Volvo XC40, with the compact SUV being offered only in the R-Design trim, which is priced at Rs. 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). A total of 3 colour options are on offer – Crystal White, Bursting Blue and Passion Red.

Volvo XC40 is based on a Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) with BEST-IN-CLASS ground clearance.

Volvo’s smallest SUV comes with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel engine, which makes 187 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,500 rpm paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission and Haldex all-wheel-drive system comes as standard. There are 5 drive modes on offer – Comfort, Eco, Off-road, Dynamic, and Individual.

Equipment on the R-Design includes 18-inch diamond cut 5-spoke alloy wheels, LED headlamps with “Thor’s Hammer” DRLs, fabric upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, memory function for driver’s seat, a 12.3-inch digital display instrument cluster, 9-inch touchscreen display, a 13-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, panoramic sunroof, Park Pilot assist, Radar based Active Safety tech, heated seats and more.

In India, the baby Volvo will compete with little Germans like BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Audi Q3.

As far as safety is concerned, the XC40 comes equipped with Volvo’s City Safety with Steering Assist, which is active at speeds up to 50 km/h. The SUV has Adaptive Cruise Control, On-coming lane Mitigation, Driver Alerts, Run-off Road protection, roll stability control, front and rear park assist pilot and 7 airbags.
