TVS motors and BMW Motorrad have been working on their lovechild project for a while now. Last year, spurred by the success of Bajaj and KTM, TVS and BMW entered into an agreement to develop low capacity motorcycles together. The deal was that BMW would do the engineering bit and TVS would produce the motorcycle which would ensure that costs are kept in check.
BMW revealed their motorcycle in the last quarter of 2015, and it already seemed very enticing to us Indians, considering the features and specifications, and I also remember mentioning in one of the articles that, this motorcycle, the BMW G310R could give the KTM Duke 390 a nightmare if t was priced properly. Well, the pricing for the BMW G310R has not been revealed yet, but we can expect it to be displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo, where the prices may be revealed.
It was a known fact that this deal between TVS and BMW Motorrad gave TVS access to BMW’s engineering technologies, which would be used by TVS as a basis to produce their own motorcycle. It was commonly thought in the automobile industry that the TVS motorcycle, just like the BMW G310R would be a naked, street fighter styled motorcycle. Well, TVS Motors has proved us all wrong, as the latest information we have suggests that the TVS motorcycle will be a Full-Faired Sports Bike.
The TVS motorcycle, Codenamed U69 will be based on the underpinnings of the BMW G310R, but will feature major aesthetic changes, which will include a Full fairing kit. The mechanical bits will be taken straight from the BMW G310R. The same liquid cooled, 313cc, single-cylinder engine powering the G310R will power the TVS U69 too, but the gear ratios on the 6-speed gearbox will be tweaked and even the max power and max torque output figures of 34 PS and 28 NM will be tweaked in order to suit the target segment in India.
Both the motorcycles will be produced at the TVS manufacturing facility located at Hosur. We expect the TVS U69 to cost a lot lesser than the BMW G310R.
