Last-year, Tata Motors unveiled the Tata Nexon in production form at biennial event, which served as the company’s fourth car using the IMPACT design language. Set to launch in late-2016 or early-2017, it seems the carmaker had skipped the scheduled like habitually, now finally the launch appears to be really nearing.
Production of the Tata Nexon has started at Fiat & Tata Motors Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra, where MADE-IN-INDIA Jeep Compass too is manufactured (also you can notice in the background). The Nexon is likely to revive again Tata Motors fortunes in the SUV segment, after a long gap of nearly 20 years. The company has bright hopes that its first compact SUV would remark buzz sales response from Indian buyers.
The Nexon will compete against the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV300 and upcoming Datsun Go Cross, with a pricing in the range of Rs 6.5-9.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Unofficial bookings for the Nexon has already started at select dealership for a token amount of Rs 11,000 while the official bookings are set to commence in August first-week, just after the media launch scheduled late this-month.
Based on the modified X1 platform from Tata, which also underpins the Zest and the Bolt. It will come in both petrol and diesel fuel alternatives. While the petrol motor will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit that produces 110 PS and 170 Nm of torque, the oil burner is a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel mill that develops 110 PS and 260 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. Reports claim that the company will launch an AMT option a few months later.
The company has confirmed the launch of Nexon during the coming festive season (i.e. October or November 2017). Though, it hasn’t revealed the exact launch date.
