The Tata Nano, famous as the 1-lakh rupee car, hasn’t been as hot-selling as Tata has hoped, even though the company is not losing hopes and launching new updates & more variants of the Nano. Like-wise, Tata Motors has introduced a new base variant of the Nano Twist in India.
The new variant named as ‘XE’ is a base variant of the Nano Twist equipped with power steering priced at Rs. 2.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Compared to the top-end XT variant, it gets black bumpers, rear view mirrors, and door handles. Chrome strips at the front and rear, fog lamps, full size wheel caps, roof-mounted antenna and roof spoiler are also omitted.
On the inside, the XE gets a black fabric upholstery, black dashboard, and still gets the dual glovebox and a 3-spoke steering. The XE is equipped with power steering and air conditioning. Apart from this, the XE misses out a heater, music system, front power windows, rear parcel shelf, 12V power socket and keyless entry with central locking.
Mechanically it remains unchanged. The XE is powered by the same 624 cc, 2-cylinder, MPFi engine, which is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, delivering power to the rear wheels. The engine generates 38 PS power and 51 Nm torque. It has a top speed of 105 kmph and delivers a claimed mileage of 25.35 kmpl.
The Nano XE is available in three body colours – Meteor Silver, Royal Gold, and Serene White. Compared to the top-end Nano XT variant, the new XE variant is cheaper by up to Rs 40,000. The price difference between the regular Nano cheapest variant CX is just under Rs 2,000, while the top-end LX is Rs 13,000 more expensive than the Twist XE.
