Tata Altroz now open for bookings – January launch

Tata Motors is all-set to introduce its much awaited car, the Altroz premium hatchback. Although its official launch is scheduled for January-2020, it will be available for pre-booking from today at your nearest Tata dealership. The pre-booking amount has been set at INR 21,000, while the official price announcement will be made during the launch.

It can be recalled that Altroz first appeared as a 45X model at Auto Expo 2018. Earlier this-year at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, it was shown in a near-production form. Today Tata Motors has finally revealed the production-ready design of the upcoming Altroz, alongside the company also announced the specifications of the Altroz.

Tata’s first offering to use its new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Arc platform. ALFA is lightweight yet strong and designed to improve performance and driving dynamics. Safety is another factor with ALFA gaining a boost. This new platform is versatile and flexible and Tata Motors has plans to use it for developing several new cars in the future. ALFA can be used to create various body styles such as sedan, compact SUV, etc. It supports multiple powertrains, hybridisation and electrification.

Altroz is expected to retail in the range of INR 5.5 to INR 8.5 lakh ex-showroom. It will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20 in our market. It measures a length of 3,990 mm, a width of 1,755 mm, a height of 1,523 mm and a wheelbase of 2,501 mm. The car has 165 mm of ground clearance. It comes with a fuel tank of 37 liters and has a trunk of 345 litres.

The Altroz comes with automatic projector headlamps with daytime running LED lights, rain sensing wipers, 7-inch MID, 7-inch head-unit touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay compatibility and Android Auto. With rear AC vents, cruise control and multi-drive modes-Eco and City, it also gets automatic climate control.

It comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child mount seats and front fog lights with cornering function as standard across all variants. It is equipped with front disk brakes and back drum brakes.

The new Altroz will be available with petrol and diesel engines that comply with BS6. The naturally aspired 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder gasoline engine produces 85 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm @ 3,300 rpm. The 1.5-liter turbocharged4-cylinder diesel engine puts out 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm @ 1,250-3,000 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission will be offered to both engines. AMT gearbox will be introduced at a later stage for both petrol and diesel engines.
