Tata Motors celebrated its 25th anniversary of their most famous commercial vehicle called Tata 407. The vehicle which was launched in 1986 has sold 5 lakh vehicles till date. It ruled earlier days of commercial vehicle market. Speaking at the celebrations held to mark the anniversary, Mr. P M Telang, Managing Director – Indian Operations said that this Tata 407 was first to showcase a prime vehicle against the backdrop in global competition.
In 1986 when Tata Motors launched Tata 407, there were other major players in the field for manufacture of larger commercial vehicles. Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi as well as Standard Motors and Tempo of Germany were all present in India but were out of competition during the later part of the decade.
Telang said that Tata 407 will be going in for a major revamping during 2012. Mr. Ravi Pisharody, President – Commercial Vehicle Business at Tata Motors said that Tata 407 was an excellent transport vehicle for both goods and passengers and even for industrial and defense use both in India and to South Asia and Africa where it is exported. The company now plans on offering this vehicle to Latin America and other countries as well.
