Suzuki rebadges the Ertiga as ‘Mazda VX-1’

Suzuki has been joining hands with various carmakers for a while now to have a strong grip over the market. And this joining of hands results in more often than not, badge engineered products which are pretty much similar for both the companies in the alliance and have minor cosmetic differences in the offerings. Their alliance with Mazda has resulted in a Ertiga based MUV being in the works whose spyshots we have for you today.

Suzuki just gave a minor facelift to its Ertiga and has now rebadged the highly popular car as Mazda VX-1. The car looks exactly the same as the Ertiga and the only differences you’ll find in the two cars are the badges. The VX-1 will compete with the Ertiga in the Indonesian market and the VX-1 gets a slightly different front grill and a hatch lid so mildly changed, that you would not be able to distinguish it from the sibling.

Ertiga has been quite the successful car in India and the car dethroned the king of the segment, the Toyota Innova. The Mazda VX-1 would come with the same engine options as the Ertiga which would be a 1.4 litre petrol motor giving out a healthy 94 bhp-130 NM and fuel sipper diesel motor would be a 1.3 Fiat Multijet engine developing 90 bhp and 200 NM of torque.

The positioning of the car in the Indonesian market will be a bit in question as to how would it be slotted, above the Ertiga or below it. In either case, its a win win for Suzuki. It will be manufactured in Indonesia via a CKD route and the kits would be exported from India. Mazda is planning to enter the Indian passenger car market and if we’ll get to see the badge engineered Suzuki’s on our road is what remains to be seen.
