Maruti Suzuki is continuously working on the small diesel engine from sometime. From the spy shots and reports obtained it is clear that Maruti has already started testing the diesel variant for Celerio in the Indian roads. Celerio’s petrol variant has already obtained the decent sales in the Indian market due to the fact of being an automatic hatchback with the price tag just below 5 Lakhs INR.
The spy shots obtained recently is of the top end variant (ZDI), Apart from this the diesel variant of Celerio is expected to be available in LDI, VDI and the top end ZDI trim. As per the reports obtained, the car is expected to be launched in the middle of the festive season which is almost three months away from now.
Coming to the technical specifications, it is expected to be powered with Maruti’s first in-house developed 793cc diesel engine which would in fact be the smallest diesel engine to be used by the passenger car. Till date Chevrolet Beat has the smallest diesel engine that uses 936cc 3 cylinder engine. Celerio’s diesel variant is expected to compete the likes of Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai Grand i10 in the Indian market. Also Maruti Suzuki is expected to continue the automatic variant for Celerio’s diesel variant as well.
