The test mule of one of the luxurious car maker in the Indian market, Audi’s A3 was spotted by many car enthusiast in and around Mumbai without the car being heavily camouflaged. Audi’s press images had revealed that the A3 would feature taillights with LED elements in typical Audi fashion. However from the spy shots obtained, the tail lamps seen are not as explained in the press meet.
Since the spy shots feature the test mule, the actual production design of Audi A3 would also have raised suspensions and different profile tires. The test-mule seen here is believed to be a base variant in A3 line-up, as certain features such as the LED daytime running lights and the rear LED cluster lights are missing. Instead, it gets the regular halogen headlights and taillights with LED, but without LED strips.
Coming to the technical specifications, Audi’s A3 is based on MQB platform which is the same as the recently updated Skoda Octavia. Apart from this, the Audi’s A3 is expected to be available in engine options which include a 2.0-litre TDI engine, a 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine and 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine in two states of tune of 125bhp and 140bhp with both 6-speed manual and S-Tronic auto transmissions.
Mr. Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India, confirmed that the A3 Sedan would be sub 25 lakhs when it goes on-sale next year. Once launched, Audi’s A3 is expected to compete the Mercedes CLA (A-Class) based sedan, which is also scheduled for an early-2014 launch in the Indian market.
