Maruti’s new entry-level car looks nothing like a low-cost car, based on the existing Alto platform the car is totally revamped resembling typical Japanese design. Today a Team-BHP forum member named ‘Diesel lover’ has managed to snap the new Alto 800 in Chandigarh probably. But what’s more interesting in these spy pictures are the fact that the Airbag and CNG kit will make way for new Alto 800.
Other facts revealed from the spy picture are that the interior quality too is certainly improved over the current Alto (F8D) but not as good as the Eon and you can notice the air-con control is of current Alto but the hazard lamp switch is placed in different location. Also the power window now comes company fitted and switches placed just like Tata Nano behind the gear lever. Note the omission of ORVM on the passenger side and steering wheel here are borrowed from Alto k10.
Surprisingly, the top-end model LXI although it doesn’t feature a music system, the driver side airbag might be a standard option. However, as we expected now it is evident that the upcoming new Maruti Alto 800 will be available with CNG option from the day of launch as it shares the similar engine with the current Alto F8D (800c) which is already available with CNG option.
The car is likely to be launched by this-Diwali been priced below Rs. 2 lakh for the base model, and would compete with the likes of Tata Nano and Hyundai Eon. Besides these, Tata Motors is also silently developing an 800cc car (codenamed: Tata Dolphin) which would see the light of the day by the end of May-2013. As of now, Maruti has taken a step further by providing an optional CNG kit which will help the car to get some good sales in most metro cities where the CNG network is adequate.
