BA readers know that new Maruti Alto 800 is scheduled to launch this festive season of Diwali and also we have brought almost all-information about the same. From the images, new Alto 800 seems to be production ready and is soon to arrive, once launched it could surely be a winner in the segment. It would compete with the likes of the Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano.
The new Alto 800 will be based on the existing Alto platform and will be powered by the same 796cc three-cylinder motor (F8D) from the Alto, but with minor modifications to ensure it complies with the latest emission requirements. In order to ensure an aggressive pricing, Maruti Suzuki has shared many parts with the Alto, including the suspension.
Frankly talking about the new Alto 800, the vehicle looks very much similar to the Ford Figo at the front-end and at the rear similar to the A-star with Mickey Mouse like rear. However, the interiors are all-new and will be a tad more spacious than the current-model. Also the crash protection should be better than the old car too, thanks to the Alto’s more up-to-date chassis.
Although not confirmed, the trusted sources reveal that the new Alto 800 will produce 47 BHP of power and 62 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the mileage is expected to be around 20 kmpl (as per ARAI). And the new Alto 800 is believed to position below the current Alto 800 with a price of below Rs. 2 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
