Spy photos of the upcoming Hindustan Motors (HM) Ambassador based Light commercial Vehicle have been doing the rounds at the roads of Pune for ARAI testing and HM may soon launch the LCV within the next few months. Now, thanks to the zalaps of Teambhp, we have a spy shot of the HM Ambassador Pick-up truck.
The front of the Amby pick-up truck was camouflaged, but the typical Ambassador front end seemed evident. The interiors of the pick-up vehicle had the same design elements as that of the Ambassador car. Interiors of the vehicle are just the same as regular Ambassadors and this Pick up targeted for commercial use could very well be a success.
Interestingly, the car had a ‘CNG’ sticker indicating that the company will launch a petrol-CNG variant of the LCV which could become popular. It has to be noted that HM already sells the Ambassador‘s Petrol version with a 1.8 litre Isuzu petrol motor fitted with CNG kits and would be very good for local usage, alongside a constant buzz out there that the diesel variant may be out soon as well.
This engine produces a feeble 54 bhp of maximum power at 4,600 rpm and 105 Nm of maximum torque at 3,000 rpm. The same engine may be used in the pick-up truck as well.
No word is out yet on the actual date of launch but since viewing it in Pune, we do not think it will be too long before one can get a glimpse of this car. The new pick-up truck will lock horns with popular pick-ups like the Tata 207 DI and Mahindra Maxx pick-up trucks.
As IndianAutosBlog even we didn’t know the existence of the 1980s HM Ambassador Pick-up truck named ‘Hindustan Porter’. The Porter was a diesel pickup truck on the Amby platform that ran for a few years. Due to its lack of performance, HM pulled it out of the market. (see picture below the jump)
HM is has set its heart in diversifying the Ambassador brand name. First, the CS version then the Pick-Up version. Of course, the current Ambassador is all set to get a complete revamp in 2012.
