Just a day after we posted a firstever undisguised spy pics of Ford EcoSport on Indian soil. Now a folk at Motor Vikatan has spotted the test-mule totally undisguised and managed to snap clear images almost from every angle. From these pictures, we cannot notice any prominent difference in the concept model shown at 2012 Indian Auto Expo and the snapped one.
The images show the EcoSport in full production form sporting the top-end Titanium trim badge on both the model, the one with a Reg. No ‘0056’ might be the petrol variant. While the other with a Reg. No ‘0023’ is doubted to be the same test-mule whose images we published yesterday with TDCi (Diesel) badging and note the color mismatch on the rear fender.
We still doubt, if it is production ready because even with top-end Titanium badging note the missing chrome garnish on the front grille and also the missing fog lights. Besides this, other contents in this prototype features such as the cobweb style alloy wheels, roof rails, body colored fittings, side mirrors indicators and rear wiper.
The EcoSport will be powered by Ford’s new 1.0-litre, three cylinder EcoBoost turbo petrol engine, capable of developing power similar to a conventional 1.6-litre motor. The small capacity promises class-leading fuel economy. Talking into account the demand for diesel cars in India, Ford also has the 1.5-litre TDCi engine from the Fiesta in the EcoSport.
Now what’s left to see is if Ford prices the EcoSport competitively, as this will ultimately decide the car’s success. We expect it to be priced in the Rs 7 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh price bracket. Ford doesn’t want to repeat the mistake it made to the Fiesta by pricing it out of contention, and is hence aiming at an ambitious localisation programme to reduce costs. To stabilise the cost, EcoSport shares plenty of bits with the new Fiesta saloon under the skin.
