The SUV enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the launch of Ford EcoSport in India. The EcoSport SUV was first showcased at 2012 Auto Expo held at New Delhi earlier this-year, and at the event itself it was a show stopper almost every visitor enquired about this vehicle. The launch of the EcoSport SUV in India is inching closer each passing day.
Today when I was browsing on an internet I have come across the uncamouflaged images of the EcoSport SUV spotted in India. Surprisingly, the EcoSport SUV spotted here is an automatic variant. There have always been speculations that the company may include the automatic transmission variant in India version of EcoSport line-up and now its confirmed.
The EcoSport AT features the similar PowerShift dual clutch automatic gearbox which first made its appearance in India, on the all new Fiesta sedan. Once launched, the EcoSport AT will be the first compact SUV being offered with an automatic gearbox in India. Apart from automatic gearbox, the pictures also confirm the availability automatic climate control and a dual airbags for driver and front passenger.
Powered by a 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engine, the vehicle will be delivering a power figure equivalent to a 1.6-litre petrol engine. This makes the vehicle extremely light weight without compromising on the power front. The peak power of this highly efficient engine is 120 bhp in combination with a peak torque of 200 Nm (while driven in Ecoboost mode).
The EcoSport will also be launched in the diesel version powered by a 1.5-liter TDCi engine that will be outpouring a peak power of 90 bhp in combination with a peak torque of 200 Nm. The EcoSport is expected to be launched in front wheel drive variant only and a four-wheel-drive variant is not likely to be included as of now in the Indian car market.
