Already many spy shots of the Skoda Rapid Spaceback was available all over the web, with difference of opinions among the people. Finally Skoda has revealed its Rapid Spaceback officially which would make its debut in the Frankfurt Motor show later this September and would go on sale after a month of its launch. As per the press release sent by Skoda to our friends at Indian Autos Blog, Skoda reports that “this is the first time that they have introduced an estate model in the ‘high-volume compact segment” and as a result of this Spaceback is expected to target the younger audience. The Rapid Spaceback is expected to be placed between Fabia Combi and Octavia Combi.
Spaceback’s exterior features a glass panoramic sun roof, prolonged rear window, rear spoiler, dual tone rear bumper, wheelbase of 2602 mm which is 18 cm lesser than the sedan and is also based on the same wheelbase architecture as the notchback Sedan. Skoda Spaceback’s interiors would comprise of three-spoke steering wheel, conventional dashboard layout, foldable rear seats which increases the 415 liter trunk to 1380 liters and is 180 mm shorter than the sedan making it less roomy when compared to the sedan. Apart from this, Spaceback would also feature ABS, ESC, optional xenon lights, hill hold system, tyre pressure monitoring and airbags (front, side and head).
As per the reports, Skoda’s CEO Winfried Vahland says that “The Rapid Spaceback is a great addition to this class in that it combines Skoda’s good practical characteristics with the popular hatchback shape. Sporting the new Skoda’s design, the Rapid Spaceback has a fresh, dynamic and individual appearance. It is a compact car with a sporty chic, spacious and practical, ideal for young people and families.”Coming to the technical specifications, Skoda’s Spaceback would be available in four petrol and two diesel engines whose maximum power output varies between 73bhp and 120bhp providing a fuel efficiency of 26.31 kmpl.
