Maruti Suzuki unveiled the all-new subcompact crossover-SUV Concept Ignis on the 2nd day of the Auto-Expo 2016 along with the Baleno RS. Concept Ignis is a smart compact urban concept vehicle that’s built on the new-generation platform which is lighter, but also more rigid than conventional platforms. It enables the vehicle to balance safety, fuel efficiency and superior driving performance. Ignis will be launched during the festive season during 2016 and will be made available for buyer through its NEXA channel.
Concept Ignis resembles the Japanese version that went on sale last month. The sub-compact crossover SUV measures 3700mm in length, 1660mm in width, and 1595mm in height with a wheelbase of 2435mm and 180mm ground clearance. The Japanese spec Suzuki Ignis is powered by a 1.2-liter DualJet petrol engine that features the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology and is coupled to a CVT gearbox with front wheels drive. A diesel variant may also be included, probably a 1.3-liter DDiS unit. A four-wheel drive (Suzuki ALLGRIP) version may also be introduced in the near future.
The front styling features a grille extending all the way from left to right with stylish pair of headlamps with projector lights and large U-shaped DRLs, perfectly infused. The front bumper houses large air intake and circular fog lamps with chrome lining. The side of the SUV has flared wheel arches with gloss black alloys and blackened A- and B-Pillars. The cabin of Maruti Ignis compliments the the stylish and sporty exterior. The interior will be available in all-black or black-white dual tone colour scheme. The front row offers sporty bucket-style seats, while the rear comes with 50:50 adjustable split seats. The boot capacity in the standard configuration is 133-litres, which can be expanded to 258-litres by sliding the rear seats and further increaed to 415-litres by folding them flat.
