A diesel powered Rolls-Royce? Well, story has it that Rolls-Royce did consider adding a diesel powertrain to its line-up but received a negative response from its customers.
“A diesel has a lot of low-end torque,” a source told AutoCar. “But customers are not going to cop it. It’s the perception of compromise. They wouldn’t entertain the idea. They said absolutely not, don’t bring diesel anywhere near a Rolls-Royce, we won’t buy it.”
Rolls-Royce also said that it has no plans to offer an SUV to its customers like Bentley, Lamborghini and Aston Martin.
“We can’t imagine a Rolls-Royce SUV,” the insider said. “It’s not something we are actively considering at all. We don’t chase volume, so we’re not looking for a volume creator.”
