Skoda Motors, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen apparently does not have any plans to introduce the Skoda Citigo in India, however there is hope for Skoda India to grow its market share by enrolling in a lower segment. The Skoda Citigo is expected to be launched in the UK market by mid-2012 to target the small car segment. The Skoda Citigo price in UK could be placed around 7000 GBP (INR 5,30,262).
The Czech auto manufacturer, Skoda Motors had unveiled the Skoda Citigo hatchback during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Skoda Citigo is built on the upcoming Volkswagen UP! Platform. It is not uncommon among the sister concerns, Volkswagen and Skoda to use the same platform for two different cars. Volkswagen UP! is also expected to be launch in the Indian car market in 2012. The Volkswagen UP! is said to be offered as the regular five-door hatchback opposed to the three-door hatch it was thought to be.
Skoda Citigo is expected to be cheaper than Up! Its front design is borrowed from a concept model of Skoda MissionL with respect to grille surrounded by the chrome finish. The UK model of Skoda Citigo is expected to come affixed with a 1.0 L petrol engine in two variants generating a peak power of 59 bhp and 74 bhp. The engine is most likely to come mated with a manual gearbox, however, the automatic gearbox might be offered as an option. An electric version based on the Skoda Citigo is also a possibility observing the demand for pollution control cars for enhancing the greener environment.
