The Renault Kwid has had a successful run in India so far. This hatchback has changed the fortunes of Renault in India and has helped them to become a formidable player in the Indian market. The fresh report claims that the company will build a Kwid based compact MPV and SUV, and will also bring the Kwid EV here.
The Kwid currently employs Renault-Nissan’s low-cost CMF-A platform, also seen on the Datsun Redi-Go. So, it is not surprising to see that the compact MPV and SUV will be built on the same platform. Likewise, the compact MPV is expected to be more like the Datsun Go+ in terms of interior space, which means with the 3rd-row seating strictly for kids.
Coming to the compact SUV, the Kwid’s styling itself is inspired from a macho SUV, and the compact SUV will get higher ground clearance, a wider body, many muscular creases and more cladding around its body. The report also claims that the company will launch an electric variant of the Kwid.
The new compact MPV that Renault is developing will be launched in India during 2019, a Kwid based compact SUV by 2020, and a battery-powered variant of the Renault Kwid is scheduled for 2022. The three cars will come with big expectations from French automaker and it remains to be seen whether they can live up to it.
