As part of its plan to double global sales to 200,000 units by 2018, Porsche is considering adding an entry-level sports car to its lineup. The new offering – a four cylinder sports car – would be in addition to the small SUV and plug-in hybrid already approved for production lines.
CEO Matthias Mueller says a new product strategy will be out by the end of March, and will include a boost in production. “We have a good opportunity to get new products to increase volume and revenue,” he said this month at the Detroit auto show. “We are analyzing our chances in different segments.”
Porsche has not released an official total of units moved last year, but says that it is around 95,000 vehicles. VW CEO Martin Winterkorn set a global sales target of 150,000 for Porsche by 2018, and Mueller says that with the new product line set to roll out, Porsche can well exceed that.
