Nissan Evalia, the sole MPV offering by the Japanese car maker in India is expected to be launched in August. The recent Nissan Evalia launch projection is based on the fact that Nissan has almost completed the development phase of the MPV and it has been finally moved to the production line. Nissan Evalia will be competing with the like so Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Innova besides other MPVs in India. The Nissan Evalia is expected price could be Rs 11 lakh.
At the time of the showcase of the Evalia at the recent Auto Expo held in New Delhi everybody expected that India is going to get a new MPV making the turf tougher for Toyota Innova and Chevrolet Tavera and ICML Rhino and others. The seven seater MPV is also expected to be bringing in much response to Nissan after Nissan Sunny sedan in India. With the Nissan Evalia launch, Nissan will be entering the MPV segment in addition to its presence in the small car segment with Nissan Micra, sedan Nissan Sunny besides SUV Nissan X Trail, premium sedan Nissan Teana and sports car Nissan 370Z.
Nissan Evalia will be produced at the Oragadam Chennai plant which is co owned by Renault and Nissan. Initially Nissan Evalia will be launched in diesel version and later a petrol car could also be in the offing as is suggested by the recent reflections by the Indian government about increasing the tax on the diesel cars in India. Nissan Evalia diesel will be powered by frugal and performing K9K diesel engine. With the new pricing in place, it is expected that the diesel cars in India will experience a price shoot up. Already the diesel cars are priced higher than petrol siblings.
The Nissan Evalia that is being sold as Nissan NV200 in other parts of the world is one of the well known products of the Japanese car maker. Apart from combating Innova in the arena, Ashok Leyland Stile will also be giving a tough time to Evalia and only time will tell which one will be the pick of the masses.
