Ford are working on bringing forward the next generation of their compact SUV, the EcoSport. The automaker will be launching the vehicle in global markets by 2020. As far as its India launch is concerned, we can expect Ford to bring the new EcoSport here sometime during 2021.
The next generation EcoSport was spied undergoing testing under camouflage for the first time. These images were taken outside Ford’s headquarters in Cologne, Germany. We can see a new styling approach on the vehicle unlike the present boxy shape of the EcoSport.
The next generation EcoSport will be based on the Fiesta hatchback, which recently received an update in global markets. Ford will increase the interior and storage spaces of the new EcoSport to make it more practical. Instead of a side opening boot lid seen on the present model, the new EcoSport will be having a more conventional top-hinged hatch.
Engine-wise, there has been no confirmation coming out regarding its possible engine options. It is said that the new EcoSport could come with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder, 1.5-litre four-cylinder and a 1.1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine options. These come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, with an automatic version being offered as an option.
Ford are expected to price the vehicle aggressively in India as well as globally in order to give its upcoming range of SUV’s a clearer path to operate. When launched globally, the next-gen EcoSport will compete with the likes of the Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-3 and the Volkswagen T-Cross. In India, it will be rivalling the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and upcoming models like the Mahindra XUV300 and the Hyundai Styx.
