The Fiat Punto has been on-sale for a long time and the platform on which the current gen Punto is based, is getting really old now and fiat is well aware of this fact. Fiat has already started working on the next-gen Punto and we have spy pictures to prove it.
Fiat has commenced testing of the next-gen fiat unto in Brazil. The car, codenamed X6H was heavily camouflaged, which served its purpose and did not reveal any information about the design language used on the new Punto, except for those gorgeous diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The rear axle appears to have been moved backwards and the car appears to be sitting lower. The car is expected to be powered by all-new engines in the Brazilian market. A 1.4-litre GSE unit with a maximum power output of 100 BHP and a maximum torque output of 140 NM is an all new development with a lighter, aluminum engine block. Also available will be the 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre E-Torq engines which can run on both petrol and ethanol.
The next-gen Punto in other developed markets will be powered by their latest MultiAir and MultiJet engines, and this is what will power the Punto in India too. The new Punto could also spawn the next-gen Linea, just like the current gen Linea and Punto are based on the same platform.
The Punto is one of the best driver’s hatchbacks out there and offers excellent feedback to the driver which only enhances the driving experience, and I would personally love it if fiat dialed in the excellent driving dynamics into the new car as well.
The next-gen Punto is expected to be launched in Brazil in the second quarter of 2016, but it still is unclear as to when the next-gen Punto will roll out for European markets or even for the Indian Market.
