There will be a new premium hatchback for the Indian market rolled out by home-grown Tata Motors to compete with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and upcoming Maruti YRA. The new model is codenamed ‘X451′ and is based on the upcoming Nexon compact SUV.
The Nexon itself is based on the X1 platform that underpins the Zest and Bolt, but the company is likely to tweak the chassis further to make it sportier on the upcoming premium hatchback. The new X451 will borrow design cues from the Nexon with a wide and bold grille along with an interestingly done-up rear. Thankfully, Tata Motors won’t stick to the tall boy design language with the new model.
Although the details are sketchy at the moment, the new premium hatchback X451 is speculated to get the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine options that will be tuned for better performance.
Reports speculate that the development of a new premium hatchback has already commenced at Tata Motors and is likely to hit the showrooms in 2017. We will not be surprised if the new X451 is showcased in concept avatar at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo at New Delhi in February next-year.
Earlier Tata Motors had failed to impress the buyers with its first premium offering – Tata Aria. This time with the new premium hatchback X451, it will be interesting to see Tata Motors moving-up segments and once again looking to introduce a premium offering!
