Skoda Auto India silently launched a new base 1.8 Ambition petrol model of the recently launched new Octavia at Rs. 16.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The Octavia 1.8 TSI was available only in Elegance trim till now. In Elegance trim, the car costs Rs. 18.71 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) which is a whopping Rs. 1.86 lakhs more than the Ambition. The bookings for the new Octavia 1.8 TSI Ambition variant has already commenced this-week, and deliveries will start after January 15.
Compared to the Elegance variant, the Ambition variant omits the LED daytime running lamps, cruise control, rear declid spoiler, adaptive frontlight system, Corner function with front fog lights, tyre pressure monitoring, headlight washer, side and curtain airbags, front parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, memory settings for seats & wing mirrors, lumbar support adjustment and Retractable screen for rear windscreen.
Additionally, the Ambition gets 16” inch alloy wheels, climate control, infotainment system, multi-function display, upholstery and telephone and Bluetooth functions are similar to the ones on the Elegance. It now features halogens instead of Xenons. The new Octavia will compete with the likes of Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, and Toyota Corolla Altis in the segment. It is likely that Skoda wants to target a wider audience by offering a cheaper petrol AT.
The new Octavia 1.8 TSI Ambition variant carries the same existing 1.8-litre turbo charged petrol engine which is integrated in 1.8 Elegance TSI AT, developing the power of 177.6 bhp and torque of 250 Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox.
