A Czech auto manufacturer, Skoda Auto has finally launched the 2013 Octavia in India, with prices starting at Rs. 13.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the top-spec Octavia Elegance TDI diesel with all bells and whistles is priced at Rs 19.10 lakh. The 2013 Octavia is available in a total of 3 variants in India, with the choice of three engines – two petrol and one diesel (but two transmission options manual and automatic). All four variants are offered with front-wheel-drive.
Built on the new MQB platform from Volkswagen, Octavia third gen is lighter, bigger and much more powerful than any of the previous Octavia models, which make it even more spacious and comfortable than ever. The similar platform also underpins Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. The new model also wears the new Skoda Logo, which will be seen on all the upcoming Skoda models.
In terms of exterior design, the 2013 Octavia is based on the Czech automaker’s Vision D design philosophy and has been on-sale in the European markets since January-2013. On the inside, the feature list is very similar to that of the Laura but includes touch-screen display, Bluetooth streaming for music and phones, parking assist, leather interiors, panoramic sun roof and power assisted seats with memory function. The rich quality of plastic and fabrics makes it look up-market, and can comfortably sit 3 adults on the rear seat of Octavia.
As far as safety is concerned, the new Octavia features like ABS/EBD, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Lane Assistance, Fatigue detection system, Adaptive Cruise control, intelligent light assistant and Traffic sign recognition, along with two airbags are standard across all variants. However, the top-model of Octavia comes with nine airbags Dual front Airbags, Front Side Airbags and Curtain Airbags at front and rear. The new Octavia is one of the safest cars available in its segment and also the first ever Skoda car to get daytime running LEDs.
Under the hood, the 2013 Octavia is available in a total of 3 engine options include; 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine and 2.0-litre TDI Diesel engine. The 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, tweaked to power cars based on the MQB platform, outputs 138 Bhp of peak power and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas the top-end Elegance is powered by 1.8-litre TSI engine developing 177bhp and 250Nm of Torque, and is paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The 2.0-litre TDI turbo diesel motor outputs 141 Bhp and 320 Nm, and can be ordered with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic gearboxes. The manual gearbox equipped Octavia Diesel is available in Active and Ambition trims while the Octavia Diesel’s AT model will be sold in Ambition and Elegance trims. The new Octavia is available in four beautiful shades which include Cappuccino Beige, Brilliant Silver, Magic Black and Candy White.
The 2013 Octavia comes with a warranty of 2 years and unlimited kms.
