Tata Motor’s British subsidiary Land Rover has launched a new, cheaper S Business edition of the Freelander 2 in India. The new base trim sees the Freelander 2’s price tag drop by around Rs 3.5 lakh, than the existing one. The Land Rover Freelander 2 S Business edition is priced at Rs. 37.63 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
In order to make it more affordable, Land Rover has removed some features like the sunroof, rear camera, front doors’ puddle lamps, driver and passenger’s arm rests and powered front seats. The company has also replaced the 7-inch touchscreen and NAV unit with a smaller 4.2 inch colour display with a 6-speaker audio system.
Other than the above-mentioned features that the Freelander 2 S Business edition gave up, it remains all the same by heart and design and most importantly, its performance hasn’t got affected. With the 2.2-litre TD4 turbo diesel churning out 148bhp and 420Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The power is transmitted to all four-wheels.
Land Rover has being manufacturing the Freelander 2 SUV from its Pune facility since May 2011. As is known that Tata Motors Limited has the ownership of Britain’s two auto legends Jagaur and Land Rover in Indian car market, which has resulted in earning huge profits for their parent companies.
At the launch event, Rohit Suri, Vice President, Jaguar Land Rover India said –
“The Freelander 2 has proved to be extremely popular with Indian customers and this new model brings a more premium look and feel to the overall driving experience. This is another step forward for the Freelander 2, where outstanding standard equipment levels, superb design, safety and all-terrain capability continue to set the standards in this class.”
