The new Audi A4 diesel gets a 2.0-litre TDI engine producing 190 HP and 400 horses.

According to the reports, the new EA288 diesel engine was developed to meet the Euro-VI compliant fuel which is quite advanced for the Indian market. Thus, Audi had to recalibrate the engine for BS-IV compliant fuel and that is why it took so long to launch the diesel variant. When compared to the previous-gen model, the new A4 diesel features upgrades to the engine and gearbox deliver a better driving experience.

The new A4 derives power from a 2.0L four-cylinder diesel motor that was doing duty in the last-gen A4 diesel. However, the engine now churns-out 190PS and 400Nm wherein the power output has been raised by 15PS. Audi states that the updated motor offers 7 per cent improvement in power delivery and fuel efficiency. This is also due to the new A4 underpinned by Volkswagen’s modular MLB platform, weighing 120 kg lighter.

The engine is mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic transmission and power is sent to the front wheels. Unlike its rivals and similar to its petrol sibling, the diesel A4 is front-wheel drive only; Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system is not offered on any version. The company claims that the A4 TDi delivers 18.25 KMPL; 0-100 KMPH in 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 237 KMPH. The diesel A4 competes against the BMW 320d and the Mercedes C220d.

The exterior as well as interior of the new A4 diesel are identical to the petrol variant.
