Mitsubishi Motors India has launched a 2 Wheel Drive (2WD) version of the Pajero Sport SUV with an automatic transmission (AT). Priced at Rs. 23.55 lakh, the new variant is positioned below the top-end Pajero Sport 4WD MT variant, and competes against the likes of Toyota Fortuner 4×2 AT, SsangYong Rexton RX7 AT, Chevrolet Captiva AWD and Ford Endeavour 4×2 AT.
The Pajero Sport automatic variant is available only in the 2WD configuration.
The main rival for the Pajero Sport automatic is the Toyota Fortuner automatic, which is priced at Rs. 23.25 lakh. Mitsubishi is already lagging far behind Toyota due to a sparse dealer network. With a price higher than that of the Fortuner, the Pajero Sport automatic will have a difficult time catching up with its rival. Meanwhile, the company has increased the price of the 4WD MT variant by Rs. 30,000. It is now priced at Rs. 23.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Talking about the Pajero Sport 2WD AT, it adorns the same engine configuration of 2.5-litre CRDi diesel engine developing the power of 175bhp and torque of 350 Nm, which is 50 Nm less than compared to 4WD option. The engine is mated to a new 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, sending power to the rear wheels. It weighs lesser than the 4×4 variant and is fuel efficient that compared to elder sibling as it will deliver an average of 12.1 kmpl.
The interior features a new multi-information display (MID).
It looks similar to the existing Pajero Sport that we know, save for a new chrome grille and reworked bumpers with fog lamps. The SUV also gets ORVMs with integrated turn-indicators. Other features include automatic climate control, reverse parking camera and a new MID displaying parameters such as average vehicle speed, average fuel consumption, distance to empty, electronic compass, altitude, outside air temperature and time.
The new automatic variant has been launched with 2 Wheel Drive option and would be available in five color options, namely the White Solid, Cool Silver Metallic, Titanium Gray Metallic, Black Mica and Deep Blue Mica colors and would be assembled alongside its manual siblings at Hindustan Motors’ plant in Tiruvallur near Chennai.
