SPIED: Baojun 530-based MG Motor SUV (MG Gloster) set for Indian debut

MG Motor India are expected to bring a mid-size SUV to the Indian market by next-year. It will be the automaker’s first product here, with the emphasis set on launching more SUV’s in the future. According to recent reports, MG Motor India will take the covers-off the SUV in April next-year.

Baojun 530 based MG mide-size SUV will make its India debut in April-2019, while launch is scheduled for second half of 2019.

As per reports, the mid-SUV could be named as ‘MG Gloster’, and was spied recently by a automotive enthusiast Shahzaman Thottan at Solang Valley in Manali. The Gloster will be based on the Bajoun 530, sold in the Chinese market. However for India, the car will get revised styling for the front and rear, featuring the company’s signature ‘Star Rider’ grille that will carry MG’s octagonal logo.

MG Motor India did reveal some of their models sold in international markets here in India. It is said that some of them will be heading to our shores soon, though official confirmation has not yet come out. For India, MG Motor does have plans to bring the Gloster in, and the target window is second half of 2019.

We can expect this mid-size SUV to be coming with a host of features to keep up with its competitors. Possible features include in-built connectivity, leather upholstery, an attractive dashboard theme, sunroof and so on. Coming to its safety, the vehicle will be having ABS with EBD , airbags, traction control, ESP and hill control assist to name a few.

Initially, the MG Gloster will be offered as a 5-seater and with 2.0-litre diesel engine, the 7-seater and petrol motor is expected at a later stage.

MG recently said that the vehicle will come powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. We can expect power and torque outputs regarding the engine to arrive soon. This mid-size SUV will also be offered with the option of an automatic along with a manual transmission.

Prices are expected to start Rs. 13 lakh and go all the way to Rs. 20 lakh for top trims. The upcoming mid-size SUV will rival the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and the Kia SP Trazor. An electric SUV is also on the cards from the automaker, so it will be interesting to see how will the public react to the launch of these models here.
