The 1988 W124 Krankenwagen (Ambulance) is said to be the only one in the country and has been part of the Rashtrapati Bhavan for almost two decades. This was used as a transport vehicle in the presidential convoy of the 1990s. The car was also seen in the convoy of PV Narasimha Rao during the 1995 Republic Day parade.

The W124 is one of the last over-engineered, mechanically-simple and electronically-minimal Mercedes stable cars to be introduced in 1985. In India, the car was manufactured by the Mercedes-Tata JV and is popular with enthusiasts.
