Mercedes Benz are looking to add a premium MPV to their India line-up. The German automaker has decided to bring the V-Class to the Indian market. Launch of the V-Class will happen by the end of this month.
In fact, the vehicle is scheduled to launch on 24 Jan 2019. The V-Class will be targeted at the hospitality and service sector, and will be imported here as a CBU. However, good demand could see the vehicle manufactured in the company’s Chakan facility, Pune.
The V-Class, currently in its third-generation, has been a decent seller for the company worldwide. It is sold in as many as 90 countries across the globe. The V-Class will be sharing quite a few components with its sedan siblings, the C-class and the S-Class.
This MPV will carry a host of features like leather seats, sunroof, LED headlamps and tail lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, ambient mood lighting and so on. As far as safety as concerned, the V-Class will have 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, active parking assist, attention assist, hill climb assist, cruise control and traction control to name a few. At present, there is no competition for the V-Class in India, which gives the vehicle a clear path to enter the market.
Engine-wise, the V-Class will be powered by 2.0-litre, BS-VI complaint, four-cylinder unit. This in general produces 194 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque. It will be coming mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Prices are expected to be in the Rs. 75-80 lakh range when the vehicle is launched. More details regarding the V-Class will be arriving as we are nearing its launch in India. It remains to be seen whether Mercedes Benz will reap benefits from this gamble or not.
