India’s largest luxury car seller, Mercedes-Benz today launched its first car in 2016, the GLE 450 AMG Coupe. This product marks the first of 12 new launches in the pipeline for this year in India.
The stylish coupe suv is priced at Rs 86.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) will compete against the likes of the BMW X6. This new model is a Coupe derivative of the recently launched GLE (facelifted ML-Class) as its name suggests, the SUV gets Coupe-inspired styling. In fact Mercedes-Benz India claims that it offers the largest boot in such a bodystyle.
Standard equipment includes AMG bodystyling elements, sports seats, an Airmatic air suspension with variable ADS Plus damping as well as an extra Sport+ mode for the Dynamic Select system. The 21-inch wheels fit in well and look stunning. The signature quad-pipes give the rear a lot of character. The rear LED lamps and chrome strip reminds one of the beautiful SL 63 AMG Coupe.
The GLE 450 AMG Coupe – the first of Mercedes-AMG’s new AMG Sport line models to take on the mid-range BMW M Performance and Audi S offerings – is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine offering 367 hp at 5,500 to 6,000 rpm and 520 Nm at 1,800 to 4,000 rpm. 0-100 kmph is claimed to be dispatched in just 5.7 seconds and a top-speed of 250kmph.
Paired with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic gearbox that offers five driving modes – comfort, slippery, sport, sport+ and individual. Each mode modulates chassis, suspension, steering wheel and power-train settings as per driving and terrain conditions. Power is sent to the tarmac through a performance-oriented 4Matic system with a 40:60 front-to-rear power split.
