The compact SUV segment is only getting heated year-after-year. However, the country’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki didn’t have any car in this segment. Foraying into the compact SUV segment, the company today launched the much-awaited Vitara Brezza in India.
For now, the Vitara Brezza is only available in diesel option priced in the range of Rs. 6.99 lakh for the base LDi variant to Rs. 9.68 lakh for the range topping ZDi+ variant with a dual-tone colour option (all-prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings for the car have been opened and deliveries will commence from the last week of March, 2016.
Under the hood sits the tried-and-tested Fiat-sourced 1.3-liter DDiS diesel motor generating 89 BHP (@ 4,000 rpm) and 200 Nm of torque (@ 1,750 rpm). Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl. A petrol and four-wheel-drive variant is not on offer.
The Vitara Brezza will lock horns with the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. It measures 3995 mm length, 1,790 mm in width, 1,640 mm in height and a boot volume of 328 liters. It has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm and a ground clearance of 198 mm. The car’s kerb weight ranges from 1,170 kg – 1,195 kg. It draws cues from the global-spec Suzuki Vitara and Maruti XA-Alpha concept from the 2012 Auto Expo.
On the inside, the Vitara Brezza sports a fresh interior design with a clutter-free cabin finished in black with brushed silver inserts. The all-black dashboard features a familiar 3-spoke steering wheel, twin pod instrument cluster with mood illumination lights and the dashboard gets hexagonal centre console with a touch-screen display. The interior has a typical Maruti-look but is spacious with ample of room at the front and rear.
Feature-wise, the top-of-the-line Vitara Brezza gets SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink, navigation and voice command; Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity, 4 speakers + 2 tweeters, steering mounted audio and telephony controls, cruise control, engine start/stop button, automatic climate control, 60:40 split rear seats and soon.
A total of 9 colour options are available, consisting of 6 single-tone and 3 dual-tone colour schemes. Single-tone includes – Arctic White, Premium Silver, Granite Gray, Blazing Red, Cerulean Blue and Fiery Yellow. Dual-tone includes – Blazing Red with Midnight Black, Cerulean Blue with Arctic White and Fiery Yellow with Arctic White. A driver airbag is standard across the range while the LDi (O), VDi (O), ZDi and ZDi+ get a passenger airbag and ABS with EBD as well.
