In March-2016, Mahindra & Mahindra reacting to Supreme Court’s ban on the sales of diesel cars with engines of 2.0-litre or more in Delhi NCR, launched the Scorpio and the XUV500 with 1.99-litre diesel engine mated to a manual gearbox.
Now the company has silently introduced an automatic gearbox option for the 1.99-litre XUV500 in Delhi NCR. The automatic gearbox is the same 6-speed unit that is offered on the regular model. However in Delhi, it is paired to a smaller 1.99-litre diesel engine which is nothing but a downsized version of the 2.2-litre mHawk motor.
In Delhi NCR, the 1.99-litre XUV500 automatic is on-sale in the W6, W8 and W10 Front Wheel Drive (FWD) models, while the automatic AWD variant is currently not on offer. This 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine develops 140 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 320 Nm @ 1,600-2,800 rpm. Transmission duties now include either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
