After lot of speculation if Mahindra could launch a Ssangyong Rexton II or the Rexton W in India. Mahindra today launched the new Rexton W SUV in India with a price-tag of Rs 17.67 lakh for the manual variant, while the automatic costs Rs 19.67 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Mumbai). The SsayngYong Rexton W line-up consists of 2 variants namely: the Rexton RX5 which is the manual transmission version and the Rexton RX7 which is the automatic transmission AWD version.
This SUV will be sold through all Mahindra dealerships in India, where a special Ssangyong vehicle sales representative will be available to attend the Rexton customers. Assembled at Mahindra’s Chakan plant, the company’s first SUV from the SsangYong stable will compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. As of now Rexton has a localization of 22% and they plan on increasing this number in the future.
The Rexton W features chrome grille and side moulds, LED turn indicators and tail lamps, 10″ 16 spoke alloys, sporty antenna and rear spoiler, W Work of Art emblem, hill descent controls, park assist with rear view camera, steering mounted controls, silver colored roof rails, keyless entry, touchscreen infotainment system, ac vents for 2nd row and 3rd row seats, removable ashtray, cigarette lighter, floor mats, cruise control, automatic headlamps, immobilizer, and much more.
Under the hood, , the Rexton W will feature a 2.7-litre 5 cylinder CRDI Diesel engine which comes in two different transmission, sourced from Mercedes. The RX5 (270 XDi) comes with 162 BHP of peak power and 340 Nm of torque while the RX7 (270 XVT) comes with 184 BHP of peak power and 402 Nm of torque. The RX5 variant comes with 5-speed manual gearbox while the RX7 is mated to a 5-speed E-tronic automatic gearbox. The top speed of the two variants is 180 kmph and 194 kmph with an ARAI certified mileage of 12.4 kpl and 11.18 kpl respectively.
