Lohia Auto has announced that it will be entering the US market by introducing electric scooters there. This plan has been fore thought and planned and the company is carrying out tests on its bikes so that they don’t face problem in the US. Tests on safety needs of the electric two wheelers are being looked into as per guidelines issued by the US governing body for road traffic safety.
Lohia Auto has said that the first model to be shipped may be the Genius, which will then be followed by other models in their product portfolio. The company recently launched the electric two-wheeler ‘Genius’ in India at a price of Rs. 25,495 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Their existing portfolio here consists of the Oma and Fame.
The Genius can run upto 70 km on a single battery charge and can average speeds of about 20 to 25 km/h. The company is still looking for a distributor in the US, and expects to start shipping to the country during the next fiscal. At the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2012, Lohia Auto will introduce a three wheeler that operates on a diesel engine.
