According to AutoCarIndia, Jeep is looking to introduce a 7-seater SUV to compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the likes in the Indian market. Don’t get to excited, the Jeep Compass aka Jeep Grand Compass will make its debut in 2020 or 2021.
The source also claims that the project has already been approved reportedly, and is believed to be based on the Compass. It could be built at Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s (FCA) Ranjangaon plant. Jeep is doubling down on SUVs for India not just because of the segment’s boom, but because the Jeep Compass has proven to be successful in India.
In the mid-term future, the company has also confirmed the launch of a sub-4 metre SUV (codenamed Jeep 526) that will compete with the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon. The smaller Jeep will sit on the same platform as the next-gen Fiat Panda.
