Mr. Ratan Grandhi, a techie working at Infosys in Hyderabad has won a two-year long fight with Hyundai which has resulted in the compared canceling handling charges in all showrooms across India.
Mr Grandhi purchased an Hyundai Xcent in December-2014, and after clearing his invoice amount, the showroom refused to pay him Rs 6950/- towards handling charges. They stated that the payment was mandatory.
Mr. Grandhi wrote a series of mails to Hyundai, which went unanswered and finally lodged a complain with the Joint Transport Commission (JTC) about the incident.
After investigation it was found that the handling charges were illegal and warned all showrooms. It also suspended the licences of 2 showrooms indulged in these corrupt practices.
Hyundai started to give messages to all its showrooms across the country to cancel handling charges and Mr. Grandhi also received his money paid as handling charges back.
Mr. Grandhi walked away as a happy man. Transport officials are spreading awareness to the general public about being careful of these hidden charges while purchasing a vehicle
