Honda has big plans for India in 2014. Honda plans to launch three new cars during next-year, the first of which is, the new Honda City, which has made its debut worldwide, but has not yet been launched in India. The City will be launched in January-2014 and built at Honda’s existing facility in Greater Noida. The third launch in 2014 will be the all-new Honda Jazz. The second launch from Honda is the most awaited one here, it’s the Mobilio MPV.
Sources say that, in March-2014 Honda will be inaugurating its second plant which is located at Tapukara, Rajasthan. This plant will take care of all the manufacturing duties of the Mobilio MPV. While the plant will be inaugurated in March, deliveries will commence only from April onwards. The Mobilio was first revealed at the Indonesian Motor Show in September-2013, and the research and development work on the car was done in Japan and Thailand. The Mobilio will be another addition to the already competitive MPV market in India. Honda will display the Indian version of the Mobilio at the 2014 Auto Expo.
To cut costs and reduce time involved in development, Honda will use the parts from its other cars in the Mobilio. The Mobilio will be powered by the same 118ps, 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine which is found in the current-gen Honda City, another engine option on the Mobilio will be the 1.5-litre EarthDreams turbo-diesel. To reduce costs further, Honda will sell the Mobilio with the dashboard, seats, switches and almost all of the interior on the car taken straight out of the Honda Amaze.
